I just tried to read Alan's response to my original post on this thread, and
the same thing happened again.

A message window opened with title "Re: The message that never was". But
the header pane and message content area contained the data from another
email - I believe it was from the next item in the message list below Alan's
message.

Alan's message was no longer in the message list. It was not in another
window. It was not in my Entourage database. I searched using the criteria

"All items", matching Title

and I also searched

"Messages" in "All Folders" including deleted items, matching Subject

Here's where it gets interesting. I just checked my POP account, using
Earthlink's web-based email interface. The Eyman message and Alan's message
are both present on the server. Apparently Entourage could not see them, or
the DB got out of synch with the POP server. Remember that I have this Mac
set to: allow online access, leaving messages on server, and deleting only
when messages are deleted from this computer (or the one at home).

DB integrity check reported no problems. I ran a repair rebuild of the DB
anyway. I wanted to avoid doing that since it hoses the column header and
view settings for all the folders on my two IMAP accounts. After the
rebuild, the two missing messages were visible and openable in Entourage.

This is very disturbing, and I am beginning to wonder if I am seeing
evidence for a serious bug. Two important things to emphasize here. The
messages were not lost, but became invisible to Entourage. Someone quickly
scanning through their messages might not notice that the text for a message
had not been displayed and was gone. If they noticed that the message
vanished, they would have to scramble (as I did) to figure out how to
recover it. The second point to note is that the DB integrity check
reported no problems, when in fact, there were missing messages.

Could this issue be related to the -16999 errors that I have been seeing?
See my post on 6/11 (subject: Error -16999). Those errors have been
happening quite regularly, and they too are associated only with my
Earthlink POP account, when opening messages for the first time via online
access.

I never saw either of these problems in Entourage X, and I rebuilt my
database before importing it into Entourage 2004. If what I am seeing is a
bug in the online access code, I hope it is fixed before Entourage 2006.
