I see this problem every so often. Only once since E'rage 2004. It's always
seemed more like a window redrew issue to me. I don't use IMAP and I do not
use an earthlink email account.  Quitting Entourage and then opening it
again has always solved the problem. Did you try that before rebuilding your
database?
