Michael, do you have all of the latest updates installed? I too went in
search of another font because of the heavy anti-aliasing of Monaco. I tried
ProFont (ProFontIsoLatin1) first, but saw the exact same symptom you are
describing in your use of Monaco. I then tried the MPW font as Beth
indicated in her forwarded message. After about a day's use, though, I
decided I disliked it more than the anti-aliased Monaco. I disliked Andale
Mono immediately. So I went back to Monaco. I do not see the o-slash "o/"
combination turning into "�" in Monaco like I did in ProFont. Perhaps Apple
updated Monaco in one of their updates?
