Not long after upgrading to 10.4.2 on the below-described iMac, I began
experiencing slowdowns ONLY when I do a <Save as> in Entourage. Otherwise,
it is blazingly fast.

G5 iMac, 1.8 GHz
20" Monitor
OS 10.4.2
2GB Ram
160 Gb Hard Drive

For example, I launch Entourage version 11.1.0.

I receive the Entourage-Talk List in Digest form and I do a <Save as> to
move it out of Entourage to another folder on the HD.

I have to wait (I counted) for about 10 seconds, sometimes with/sometimes
without the spinning pizza wheel for the navigation window to open.

I leave Entourage open and do other things on the computer. Later, checking
the mail again, I receive something else on which I want to do a <Save as>
and again have to wait for about 8 seconds for the navigation window to drop
down. If I then go immediately to another email in the Entourage In Box and
do a <Save as>, the navigation window drops down instantly.

Leave Entourage, come back later, same behavior.

Is there any way I can figure out what it causing this?

It's very frustrating to have spent so much for a fast computer and all that
ram, to have everything running just fine in Panther, and still stare at
that stupid spinning pizza wheel in Tiger????

    What I did so far:

Went to: <http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html> and followed the
instructions there . To wit:

Ran DW 3.0.3; found only the usual minor stuff. No warnings/alerts re
anything serious.

Repaired permissions

Ran Yasu 1.3.2, which included yet another repair of permissions.

Restarted and repaired permissions yet again.

Launched Entourage, highlighted an email in my Inbox and chose Save As.

Counted the seconds: it took 9 of them before the dialog window opened; no
change, problem still there.

    Thanks,
    bob
