Well, don't go entirely haphazzard about it, there are some, based on name,
that you more or less are going to know are not the culprit.

Also, each time you put a new chunk back in, copy them all, paste them into
a text file, as if you are doing these in chunks of 20, you will quickly
forget which chunk of 20 you moved. Knowing the last state of the moved
items is helpful.

Yes, the Finder will lock up when you move them out the first time, but we
are doing something here that is not entirely recommended.

Start with putting everything back in that starts with "com.apple" and log
out and back in, if the shift-h comes back, you know it an apple pref at
least. In which case, move em all back out, and move in all the ones you
now know are good. Then you can pick and chose the apple ones that sound
suspicious.

If you are quick about it, you should be able to narrow this down in at
most, 10 logouts, maybe 30 minutes of your time.

I am just sorry I did not suggest this up first time around a few weeks ago,
I almost did, but felt it may not be the best road for someone who stated
they were not that technically inclined. You seem to be doing just fine by
the way :-)
