Hi all,

I have been using Entourage 2004 for the Mac on a 17" MacBook PRO with 2GB of
RAM with the latest updates for a while and have notice an unacceptable
situation where Entourage will freeze for 3 minutes for each new email message
being loaded. I am using the latest version of Mac OS X (10.4) with the latest
Apple Updates and I disabled Spotlight from scanning the Identities folder. If
I shrink my database down to less that 100mb in size, I think the problem goes
away (I cannot recall since I gave up on using my Mac because of this).
However, I need all of the email messages, Project information, etc. in my
current 4GB+ database. I have worked with Microsoft Support for 3 hours
straight and after the end of that period, they wanted to charge me $300 to see
if it was a bug in Entourage. This is not ideal.
My guess is that Entourage's architecture was created to read the entire
database into memory EVERY TIME an email message is downloaded, instead of just
appending the email to the database. So, the larger the database, the longer
it takes to process the email message. Is this a correct deduction? Is
Entourage's database system designed this way?

A possible final data point is that the problem "seems" to be worse when
connecting to Exchange. But that also may be incorrect.

Any thoughts?

Best Regards,
Eric
