My Macs connect to the mail servers to send or collect mail, usually executing the transactions quite quickly. However, they sometimes take a while to negotiate the contact, and sometimes even timeout. The problem happens more often on my wireless connection than it does on my wired Ethernet connection. Since the problem is sporadic, and is usually corrected without my doing anything, I have presumed that the problem is with my ISP (Cablevision). Occasionally I need to do some combination of restarting the router or Mac, or the hub on my wired connection, and once in a while even the cable modem. But that is quite unusual. So if Entourage is taking a while to make the connection, it is important to know if Entourage is just timing out, or if Entourage is really stuck/frozen. One way to know that would be to leave Entourage alone for a while, and see if function returns. You'll know if Entourage starts to work again, and you'll know if the previous connection attempt failed. You'll see a log/error notice in the bottom right of the Mail window, and upon connection failure, when Entourage finally gives up, it makes an unpleasant "plunk" sound. You can hear a sample of the "Mail error sound" in Preferences -> Notification -> Sounds. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roger S.
