I will do that on Wednesday morning when I return to work.  I thought I
caught all Office preferences and .plist files but I must've missed that
one.

Hi Steve,

Just a guess here, but have her quit out of all Office apps and then
rename the following prefs file:

Home: Library: Preferences: Microsoft: com.microsoft.AlertsDaemon.plist

It's sufficient to just type an "x" before the "com" in the file name.  

When she relaunches her Office apps, a new plist file will be created.
See if that clears the problem.  If not, she can restore the original
plist file by renaming it back the way it was (after again quitting all
Office apps).
