MS uses the 'folders on my computer' appendage because mail can exist
locally or on the net. I suppose they want to be clear. If you use imap
accounts and hotmail accounts you mail is on the net (or a network)...
whereas if you use a POP account your mail is downloaded to your computer. I
wish I could turn it off. I know where my mail is and it adds clutter.

Mail does the same thing by the way... it is more explicit adding Folder X -
account name (200 messages, 243 unread), but at least it gives you some
useful information.
