Ok, Kouta, interesting timing for you to make a comment because I just wrote
something about what little I know about forestry in Finland in a discussion
elsewhere and maybe you could enlighten me.

I understand that forestry in Finland is one of your nation's major economic
engines and that your sawmills are world class- maybe the best in the world. Am
I correct in this?

Do you have statistics on the forest economy - that is, what percentage of the
total economy is it?

Are most of the forests planted after harvesting or are they naturally
regenerated?

Do private landowners get tax breaks if they manage their forests?

Do most private forest owners manage their forests? Do they hire foresters?

More questions later.

Joe

  Steve,

The lake scenery with cabins could well be from eastern Finland! No
wonder that many finnish people emigrated to Ontario.
