Kirk, Kouta: I know several forest ecologists from Finland and Sweden. I was able to talk with them at the European Congress of Conservation Biology in Prague during September. They are not very happy with the way forests are treated in Scandinavia. Many species that are important for ecosystem function, such as fungi insects and mosses, are declining in abundance after several generations of clearcutting.
