Steve and Randy,

That beech is amazing, and somewhat perplexing.  As far as I know,
that beech is the tallest individual ENTS has measured.  What
surprises me is the latitude.  I can not think of another species that
grows well in the sounthern Appalachians that reaches its maximum
height that far north, although some like black birch and white pien
come close.

Great finds, and looking forward to a full report.
