I have discovered that there is a hummingbird that is the fastest bird when 
related to its body length (320 body lengths per unit versus a diving peregrine 
falcon at 200 body lengths per unit)...

You could look for the fastest bird of each species to make it more sporting.  
Trees don't move, but that doesn't mean all of the species present in a section 
of woods are easy to find if you aren't told where to look.  Maybe you could 
not only check the tree off, but would have a column for GPS or girth, so there 
was something more than just checking it off.
