The last sentence doesn't make much sense to me... but so you are seeing
some DOF effects in the viewfinder, but you don't think they are the same
as on print, right?
If so, try this: set the camera on tripod and point it to a large
newspaper, but do it in a low angle. Now mark the spot where your focusing
point is with some red pen for example. Now focus with AF (this way you
can check the accuracy of the focus at the same time :) Then while looking
through the viewfinder mark the areas that you think are "sharp". Now take
the picture. After you get the picture back, you can see the DOF effects
in the picture along with your markings that indicate what you saw through
the viewfinder.
BTW, I also think it's a matter of viewfinder being so small that
everything looks sharper even though the DOF is the same. I.e. the largest
circle that you consider sharp in the viewfinder is magnified on the print
to even larger circle that you nolonger consider to be sharp point.
