Well, if I shoot a picture at f1.4 with my 50mm I get someone's eyes
in focus but heck by the time you get to their nose it's already
getting blurry - a couple feet behind that is -totally- out of focus.
That is what I see with a print. That is NOT what I see when I am
looking through the viewfinder with that lens on and the DOF preview
off (i.e. wide open). If I did see it that way, it would be near
impossible to use such a lens.
