It does not really matter what aperture you set. If AF
at f8 is possible (3,1v) you can set the lens to any
aparture you want and AF still works. That is because
the measurement for AF is done before the exposure
when the lens is still wide open. Otherwise the
viewfinder would get darker too when you stop down the
lens.

I think it is f8, too. Not 100% sure, though.

When the camera gets the effective aparture smaller
then f5.6 it shuts down AF. It won't even try to AF,
at least with my lens and camera. For the 3rd party
converters that do not report the new effective
aperture AF is still enabled. But because of the
reduced light AF is harder to achieve.
