I guess I see things differently. My basic perspective is this: a
man's signature block is his castle (to paraphrase loosely and
poorly). That is, so long as the content of someone's post meets the
accepted criteria for a list or a usenet post, it should not matter
what he has in his (-4- line max) signature block [barring any
blatant offensive material].

If the listowner here wants to have a rule that absolutely no
commercial references are to be on this list whatsoever then that is
of course his prerogative, however there are people here that push
specific companies in the TEXT of their postings, which to me is a far
greater sin than a signature block.

What I do get riled up about is personal attacks based on factual
inaccuracies and his definition of "spam" which he foisted upon me was
factually wrong and thus his ad hominem attacks were based on a
non-issue.

Again, this is a private list and the rules are whatever the listowner
agrees he wants. That is obvious. But those rules, when they go
against widely accepted internet custom and tradition and not enforced
equally, seem nonproductive.

Actually if he wanted to remove all signature blocks, mine follows
tradition of spacing and could be cut automatically. My mailer does
not allow different signature files for each list/forum, and I've been
using this registered copy for years and years now and I'm not about
to give it up for this argument. Admittedly newer mailers have this
function built in and I would feel less feisty about it if I only had
to change my signature file for this list. But as it stands if I
change it here, I change it everywhere (it's up to you, New York, New
York.....).

Ah, but that was the content of your posting. Again, there is a
fundamental difference here.

As to getting back on track. I'm not going to write another character
on this whole thing. My signature block will remain what it is until
I get the urge to change it, which I do probably once or twice a year.
If he wants to censor/ban me based on it, I'll take my lumps based on
principle and move on elsewhere. The sun will come up tomorrow and my
camera will still work. I'd rather continue to share and learn from
all the folks here, but I'll not be bullied.
