For a dedicated bellows system I believe it is: much cheaper assuming
you get access to some cheap second hand bellows (in the UK we have
camera fairs).
For me though it was as much flexibility. Novoflex make some
dedicated bellows but IMO they are
i) a bit flimsy
ii) do not allow rapid switch from portrait to landscape format
iii) to use them in portrait format the tripod mount has to be tilted
(If the problem behind that is not obvious it is no good me trying to
explain ;o)
Also: I use them on various sets of bellows. The biggest gets me
over 30cm of extension. Even with the 100 macro (75mm focal length)
that is 5:1. More with a 2x converter camera-side.
