One of the reasons why the background is black might
be FP. FP does decrease the range considerably because
it uses many low-power flashes. Therefore, the flash
is active during the whole ]1/250..1/8000] sec of your
chosen shutter speed. So if the flash is you main
source of light you might be better of not using FP.
In that case your shutter speed will be <= /250 sec
which gives more exposure to the background and
increases the flash range. The flash itself will stop
the action. Just my theory since I only have the 540EZ
which is not able to do FP.
