I am considering 28-135 IS, along with Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical,
Tokina AF28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 AT-X
PRO HLD, Tokina AF28-80mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO. Any other ideas? HOw about 28-105
F2.8 TAMRON Asperical? I think there were more recent Canon lenses covering
this range as well. There is also the used 28-80 F2.8-4 L USM, but that
seems a bit more expensive around $750, and might be too big to carry
around.

Fastest focusing is the 28-135mm IS Lens. Turn off IS if you pan your
subjects.
Slowest lens, but probably the sharpest is the 28-105mm F2.8 Tamron.
It is also the heaviest of the lot.
