I am going to get the CANON EOS 28-125 IS zoom. I know of b&h (great place),
adorama.com, keh.com.
I am looking at options if I can find the US model cheaper than $475, and
from a reputable camera shop.
As a side note, I would voice my opinion against Camera World of ORegon once
more.
I live in Portland, OR. And the store is downtown. Their warehouse is in the
area too. I called them Wed. to confirm that they have the 28-135 lens. THey
said they have it in warehouse, and will have it in by Friday, for sure, and
the price is $475. I rush before my birthday party, going out of my way to
the store on Friday, about half an hour before close time. The guy was
obviously not very happy I was in too late, but I didn't care. I asked about
the lens, and they said they will have it in Monday. I was furious because I
would not have come or order from B&h first day if I knew this. Furthermore,
the price was going to be $575. Let me tell you this : These guys do not
know their right from their left. THey have a mail order, a web business and
a store. All of them have different policies and prices. IBM had a
commercial (about a lighting&lamp seller or something like that) just like
this situation. When I mentioned the web price, he groaned and said OK but
said they have to add $10 to cover the handling expenses! Isn't that
ridicilious? I pick up the lens from the store and they charge me $10 for
that.
When I needed to return some item, I was om the phone for 2 hours waiting.
THis was right after there was a big article at oregonian about them saying
how good they are. So ironic. Anyway, in store, their people are veyr
unprofessional (if you do not look rich, they do not talk to you much or go
and disappear, trust me on this one) and they also give false or inaccurate
information. Couple of times, I heard them claim things about certain Canon
lenses vs 3rd party lenses which were not true.
I only shop there when I do not need service and the price is good.
