Well, then just keep your manual equipment. For
subjects where you do need AF you will have to buy a
new AF lens and AF body. But that is true for all
brands. So the single only drawback I see is that if
you buy new equipment (because you need AF) but in the
same time also want to keep some old lenses you have
to bring an additional body. I doubt that this little
additional hassle is worth all the incompatiblities
caused by Nikon's approach. This incompatibibilities
could actually make you spend quite some money because
of upgrades you need to use some new features. With
Canon you did not really have additional expenses. If
you want AF there is no way around buying a new AF
lens and AF body. Again, the only additional cost is
that you cannot sell but have to keep your MF body for
your old lenses.
