Jim, I can't speak to how often you would use the lens, but math tells us
the 1.4 will let in 92% more light than the 1.8, so it's nearly twice as
bright. The tradeoff is that the DOF is much shallower at that aperture. As
you may have gathered, I use the 1.8 because it's not all that often I need
a normal lens, but the 1.4 has been on my "need to get" list for a while. It
just doesn't seem to be at the top when the money's in my pocket!
