Hello all,
I've used my IX7 for about a year now, and am considering getting a proper
35mm camera for when I want to take seriously sharp shots, a bigger
viewfinder, and perhaps some eye-focusing (I recently played with a friend's
EOS-5 and was quite impressed by all of the above, and am assuming that an
upgrade to 35mm WILL improve shot sharpness to some extent).
As I understand that the IX7 body is supposedly more advanced in terms of
features than the Rebel2000/EOS88/EOS3000 as it is called in different
countries, would anyone have any suggestions as to what to go for? EOS-5,
EOS-3, EOS-1V, EOS-1N, EOS-1, EOS-30? Also, what is the equivalent of the
Elan? I would probably be looking at used kit, as my finances are in no
condition to allow me a new EOS-1V (or, for that matter, a used one!). Also,
I am by no means a professional photographer or even a serious amateur, as
my purchase of the IX7 suggests.
For what it's worth, I already have the following:
- EOS IX7 body (obviously)
- 22-55mm EF lens (came with the camera)
- 28-105 EF lens (bought last year, which I am quite fond of, although I
think I may upgrade to the 28-135 IS later)
- Speedlite 380EX (bought before the 420 came out)
- Olympus u:mjuII/Stylus Epic camera (for when I don't want to lug my gear
along)
- A Lowepro Contour Runner bag that can probably fit something slightly
smaller than an EOS-5.
As I shoot a range of subjects, and primarily for entertainment and
self-gratification rather than money or external praise, would I be better
off getting a 28-135 IS for now and saving up for when the EOS D3 falls to
an affordable level (in about seven years, I think)? Or would upgrading to a
35mm now really give me that much more shooting flexibility and enjoyment?
(I must note that if I am going to upgrade, I anticipate taking the
IX7/28-105 combo on shorter or less "photo-related" holidays, and the 35mm
body on the others).
Any advice and/or comments would be appreciated, thanks!
Y-W
