    I think we have to keep in mind a gallon of gas 20 years ago costs less,
as well as a loaf of bread. And the new lenses do have a motor in them -
that costs more to make.
    As to my 'piece of crap' EF 75-300 - I think I'll just keep it and keep
taking 'crappy' photos with it. They look pretty good to me, and I'm getting
great blowups from it...
    Price and quality aside - I like a compact, light, and, dare I say it -
'inexpensive' lens.
