Hi Pierre,
The 100-400 (1360g) is 2.3x the weight of the 7e (580g)
If you swing and bang the camera, I'm sure something will
eventually get damaged.
I use the Canon camera strap to loop around the foot of the
100-400 tripod mount. The camera with lens can hang obliquely
across my chest. This technique also worked for the EOS 1000FN
(Rebel SII) which has polycarbonate lens mount.
