Other people have given you excellent advice. Since it's informal, you 
don't have to worry about people given you the Glare of Death if you're in 
the way. My own suggestion would be to bring a small monopod or tripod (try 
not to set it up where people will trip).  This will let you get wonderful 
1/15 or 1/5 shots where the heads of some of the members are in focus, but 
their hands (drummers particularly) are blurred.
