I believe the NHG II (ISO 800) is just making it to the European market--Chasseur
d'Images has recently had a "new product" announcement for it (in France, obviously),
but only in 120 (and 220?) format.
I've used it for ice hockey and like it a lot--without being pushed, it enlarges
nicely to 11x14 inches (2.54cm per inch). I've not much cared for the increase in
contrast and loss of color fidelity
produced by pushing NHG. If you really want to try it and have the time to wait for
delivery, you could order some in 35mm from B&H.
Regarding the Portra, be aware that it can show a lot of grain (in an unattractive
way) in shadow areas--in my experience, Fuji Superia 400 is much better in that
regard. If that isn't available, I
personally would choose Agfa Optima II 400 over the Portra 400 films. In fairness to
the Portra, it does scan well.
