RW> I do many hundreds of live band shots every year. Take the 70-200/2.8 and the
50/1.8 (you can put this 50/1.8 in your pocket easily). My normal film for this kind
of shooting is Fuji NHGII 800. I
RW> regularly shoot it rated at ISO 1250 and develop it with a +1 push.
RW> The stage lighting at the prom will probably not be the greatest. If there is not
enough light to shoot at f2.8 @1/60, you will have to use a flash.
RW> 1/60 is really the slowest you can go and still get acceptably sharp pictures.
Unless they are seated, they will be more movement than you can stop with any longer
shutter speed.
RW> Also, at f2.8, you don't get much depth of field. So, if you want what's in focus
to stay in focus by the time your camera trips the shutter, avoid taking the shot if
they are swaying forwards
RW> and backwards (side to side is OK).
Thank you Roger and all others who helped me in deciding. After
questioning my brother which lighting equipment will be used I went
for the Kodak Portra 400NC since the Fuji NHG wasn't available (maybe
I'll be able to get it somewhere else)
I also bought a Kodak T400CN for the B&W shots. The 70-200 will be the
only lens I am going to use, a monopod and a flash will complete the
gear. I am confident that my trusty EOS-3 won't let me down.
Thanks for the tips of technique, I really appreciate your comments
and will try the things you suggested. I'll keep you informed of the
outcome.
