I am surprised Michael wrote that about the MF functioning of the 85/1.2.
I was very poorly impressed with it in that regard. In fact I thought mine was broken
at first. You can't focus it manually
at all unless the shutter button is first half depressed! Very klunky IMO and
entirely unlike the much newer EF300/2.8L IS and
EF180/3.5L lenses with which I am also familiar. While I am certainly not slamming
this impressive lens, it indeed does AF very slowly - almost like a macro in that
respect and I don't consider it fit my personal definition of FTM at all. After
buying the EF300/2.8L IS, my first Canon lens, I guess I expected too much. The
85/1.2 is a much older design I suppose. I think the design needs an overhaul. They
should make it an IS design too :>)  Of course I think ALL Canon lenses should be IS
(I wish!)
