This can get confusing in a hurry.

The Canon Camera Museum says the following:

100/2.8 USM Close focus 310mm/12.2in.(measured from the film plane).
Overall lenght is 119mm (not sure how this is measured relative to the film
plane). Working distance is 149mm/5.9in (measured from the front element).
The Canon USA site says the "distance from subject to front of lens, at
closest focus setting" is 5.9in. This is what most consider to be the
working distance

100/2.8 non-USM also has a close focus of 310mm but it does extend it's
front elemtent when focusing. It's overall lenght is 105.5mm/4.2in. But
the front element extends from there and thus you will loose working
distance.

Does any one know how long the 100/2.8 non-USM lenght at 1:1?
