I have the Bogen 3232 on my monopod. My opinion is, since a monopod pans
easily, panning need not be a function of the head. When I was using the
100-300 USM lens, tilting to vertical orientation was important but now that
I have the 100-400 IS L with the tripod collar, even that's not necessary as
it's easier to keep the collar locked in place and rotate the lens. Only
change I would make is to go with the 3229 head with quick release, or add a
quick release assembly that's compatible with your tripod head.
