Dan -

I made the same decision and bought the 420EX because of cost. I use
it on an Elan 7. Now don't get me wrong it does a terrific job,
never ceases to impress me. However, I DO miss the presence of any
manual controls at all. I'm planning to buy a 550EX ASAICAI (as soon
as I can afford it!!) and use the 420EX as a slave. So, if you think
you might have any need for manual control, go with the 550, and buy
the *420* later. I kinda wish I had done it that way around. I have
also wished for the higher GN of the 550 a few times.
