Correct. The 500/4 is the replacement for the 500/4,5.

The actual 500/4L is perhaps, according to the magazin Chasseur d'Images,
the best 500mm f/4 ever made.
Therefore if a 500mm can support both 1,4x & 2x TCs, surely the Canon gives
you the better results.

I think that you can use the 2x with it...
