Yes, it has been discussed not so long ago. While there is no proof or
confirmation from Canon, it seems reasonable that they (Canon) do it in order
to be able to show the max aperture of all their lenses on all cameras.
Otherwise, your 1000FN would have to show f/2 with the 50/1.8, not a good
ad for Canon ;-) The "wrong" values also seem to coincide with max apertures
of EOS lenses (1.8, 3.5, 4.5)
