> What makes ppl to buy EOS equipment?
I bought my first camera in the early 90's. I wanted a beginner's
camera. I bought a few photo magazines ("Buying Cameras" I think was one
of
them) and came up with three options. Canon, Minolta or Nikon. Of the
three, Nikon was the more expensive and had the least interesting
beginner's camera (can't remember the model). Minolta was much cheaper
than Canon but the reviews I've read said wonders of the EOS 1000FN, so
I played the extra cash. I bought it with a 35-80/4.5-5.6 USM. USM was
also a factor that made me choose Canon. I remember reading in "Buying
Cameras" that (quote): "this lens really shows it's pedigree". It was by
far the worst lens I've ever owned! The distortion at 35mm was
monstrous! Nevertheless I've never regretted my decision. The 1000FN was
indeed a great camera. The only thing I missed was a remote shutter
release, so I bought an EOS 5 a couple of years later. Would have had it
until today if it weren't for those "mode dial" breaking. Also had an
EOS 600 that also had the mode dial problems! This were the only
problems I've experienced with Canon, those *#**@* mode dials!
The reason why I stayed with Canon was because it had a much faster AF
than Nikon during a long time. When Nikon finally caught up with Canon I
already owned a nearly complete system that suited my needs. There was
no reason why I should change. The only criticism I have regarding Canon
cameras are, of course, the mode dials! They are obviously very
unreliable, but Canon still insist in maintaining this
spring-and-bearing mechanism. I wonder why?
