I'm not sure the average camera buyer recognizes that those white lenses on
the sidelines are Canon. Before I bought my first camera, I wouldn't have
known otherwise.
On the other had, Richard Williams, father of tennis pro Venus Williams was
spotted in the stands of Wimbledon yesterday shooting what appeared to be a
Rebel 2K or Elan 7 with a smallish white lens that appeared to be a
70-200/f4.
It caught my attention, but again, for the average buyer, the Canon label
could not be seen. So I doubt that many noticed the type/make of camera he
was shooting. Maybe Canon is planning a Venus/Andre promotion.

P.S. I got started with Canon because the Camera store salesman recommended
it to me and the price of the Rebel XS with 35-80 was nice. I only remember
the old Canon AE1 commercials. Prior to this another store tried to sell me
a Nikon FM10. It seemed really expensive if I remember. I realize know
that the guy was a Nikon fan and biased against Canon. I remember him
saying that the Rebel was cheap and plastic. I guess that was true
comparing the FM10 to the Rebel XS. But I'm really glad the other store
steered me toward Canon.
