I just "tried" the new Tamron 24-135 f/3.5-5.6 in a store (read
"handled") and it felt pretty good. A lot like the 28-135 in weight
and heft, with the typical unbalanced Tamron unbalanced zoom and focus
ring feel though. (Zoom tight, focus loose - maybe it's for blind
differentiation) One nice feature that I wish the Canon 28-135 had,
is a lock that you can engage when it's sucked in to 24mm, to prevent
barrel creep when walking around. I have yet to read anything about
its optical qualities, although I would expect at the least decent
from Tamron, and it doesn't strike me as an over-ambitious range of
focal lenghts.
