Which brings up my biggest complaint about the 100-400, background
blur.  As much as I love the zoom, the 300 f/4 IS has noticeably better
background blur.  Neither is outstanding.  The only other complaint I
have is the push-pull zoom.  You get used to it, but I like the ring
zooms better.  If you need exact composition, the ring is much faster
and more accurate.

As I have noted before, if you really want to see how much this lens is
liked by the pros, go to Ding Darling in Florida and you'll see twenty
five tripods lined up toe-to-toe and almost everyone there has a 100-400
around their neck, even the Nikon shooters.  It's a perfect "bird in
flight" lens.
