Ditto on the (absence of) problems Bob. I've had my 100-400 going on 16
months now and other than the slight stiffening of the zoom action, I have
not had any problems with it whatsoever. And, I do use this lens *a lot*.
I've used it with an A2e, EOS 5, EOS 3 and 1v--with and without a 1.4X
extender attached--and so far and it's operated normally on a consistent
basis. I will say though, that I haven't handled the 100-400 like a pro
might...you know, miss the shot, miss the pay check...and rather 'baby' it
like my other equipment. It, like other cameras and lenses however, has
been subjected to it's fair share of rain and the occasional dusty shooting
environment.
