Do you folks who have not had this problem use PB-E2 (or some form of
external battery source) by any chance?

(seems I'm the only one with this problem! even with the loaner EOS-3 and
EF100-400)

BTW, I received back the EF100-400 lens back today after it is repaired by
Canon, free of charge even it is one year after the warranty had expired,
(Thank You Canon!) On the repair sheet it said "main barrel and parts are
replaced", and the parts replaced were "focus ring unit" and "pin, cover".

Now a question for owners of this lens, I now notice a slight (but very
noticeable) rotational freeplay on the manual focus ring in both directions
before the actual manual focusing is engaged, I can not recall if the lens
behave like this before.

Regards,

Ken
