While technically this is the case, in reality the -3 and 28-135 are an excellent combo and auto focus in all normal situations isn't a problem. This is the setup I use as a "grab and run" kit as well as for back up. I have used it in many areas from low light to slow close-up action and can't complain at all. Good value for money.
