If you use the central focusing point, as most of us do, then it's not "half-strength", it's "double-strength". With my EOS 3, I have AF up to f/8 when I use the central focusing points. Normal for most cameras is f/5.6. With the EOS 3 and the 1v, it's f/8. I consider that a big advantage.
