the original EOS-1. Is that a good alternative. Is it better to pay
extra for the EOS-1n? I am knowledgeable about photography and come from
an FIN and T90 perspective. I currently use the Elan 7e, but wished that
the viewfinder display was brighter. I can not really see it well in
bright light. Anyway thanks for you opinions.

Hi Steve,
As many people already gave their opinion, I thought I'd add one too. I
actually have used all the cameras in question - 630, 1, 1n and RT. I still
have 1n and RT. I wish I still had that 630 - but I sold it to get 1 and then
sold 1 to get 1n.
Overall - 6xx and RT series cameras are very good ones in my opinion. Yes -
they are old, but still can hold their own. And still keep a pretty good
value. Good RT with a couple of grips and a couple of screens can still run
$500.
At times I kick around an idea of upgrading to a newer body, but to me -
nothing is really worth it, other than 1V. I think older cameras were much
better thought through when it came to built it features. Well, there are
downsides - slower AF, no E-TTL, but if you know your camera and what it can
do well - you will still get better results. Many times it's not what you use
- it's how you use it.
Plus there always those little sentimental things - RT rather limited
production camera, and if you get one in good shape - it just makes you feel
like you have a collectors item. Well, sort of, anyway.
One more thing to consider - those old 630, RT cameras, at least in my
experience, have maybe simpler, but still very good metering system, that
never lets me down, while some newer ones, that I tried seem to "guess" a lot
more often.
If you have any specific questions about any of these bodies - feel free to
ask - I'll be glad to help if I can.
George
