Dear List,

I have on two occasions received mail from different sources claiming to be
offline responses to my posts. These did not originally appear to have an
attachment; however, when I tried to open them, an attachment suddenly
appears and my virus checker warns me that the letter contains the virus
Win32Bandtrans.b. Be very careful opening offline responses! The latest
one looked a little odd in that it had "Re:Re:subject" in the subject line.

I have had a passing acquaintance with this virus. It infects your hard
drive and takes over your email address book sending itself out to everyone
in it. It is quite skilled at making itself look like it is from someone
you know. Please check your drives thoroughly with an up to date virus
checker and get rid of this virus. Nothing kills the fun of being on a list
like having a virus hit all the list members. Oh, by the way, the virus
also creates a back door to your system and logs key strokes sending this
information, including any passwords you might use, to whomever is behind
this virus. Not fun.

Whoever has access to the actual server for this list might want to check if
the server is infected, too.

Oh, yeah! Don't forget to photograph your look of surprise or relief when
you find out if you test positive or negative. For best results use your
EOS gear!! (an attempt at staying on topic!)
