I actually doubt the authenticity of these latest rumours. It sounds as if
some journalist invented or misinterpreted a statement from Canon
completely.
As for DO, I think the 400/f4 is very much a launch project for the new
technology. A technology that must have cost quite a bit to develop and from
there the high cost. If there is much interest in this lens by the target
sports and PJ market, I'm sure we'll see more and probably cheaper DO lenses
on the horizon. A 500/2.8!? - I don't think so - But I'd LOVE to be wrong on
this :-)
