Did the service people at Canon manage to recreate the problem in their lab? Did they carry out any repairs before sending back your camera, or just report that they could not recreate the problem? How sporadic is the problem? If someone used your camera and lens for half an hour or so, would they probably see the problem? If so, is there anyone else that you could get together with in order to try out their 28-135 IS lens on your Elan? Perhaps a list member? Where do you live? Isn't there a known problem with Elans locking up due to small differences in the physical size of different brands of 2CR5 batteries? As the problem occurs only with that lens, this seems unlikely to be the problem, but perhaps a member of the list will suggest a brand that is known to work well with Elans. Which brand are you using? If the problem started while the equipment was under warranty, you need to get Canon to extend the warranty, and you need to get that in writing. If your regional Canon repair centre is unwilling to do that, you should write to Canon's head office for your country (I did that once, and Canon responded very well). When you say that the stabilizer shakes, do you mean that the image jumps around in the viewfinder when IS is operating (and not just at the brief moment when IS switches on or off). If so, that's exactly what went wrong with my 100-400 IS lens, and Canon ended up replacing it (but only after I wrote to the head of Canon USA's photographic products department).
