You can mount it in a standard 1/4 threaded screw. I've a mini-mini-mini ball head from Manfrotto that's just perfect for the job. I've tried other small heads (hamma) but they fail to keep the 550 at any angle. It's just too heavy. I also have a Keizer shoe mount that comes covered with plastic where the contacts will come, so there's no risk of short circuit. Now to answer your other question... a metal mount or any short circuit on the contacts of the 550 will make it behave extrangely (depending of which tops are making contact). It tried short circuiting in pairs and some of them give you several flash bursts. Mounting the 550 on a standard shoe with a contact in the middle works. The one I have has a plastic spacer arround the central contact. I use it with a very long cable and a normal PC adaptor on my EOS to fire it manually off camera. I hope that helps. greetings, Gerard. * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
