The B&H website does have a Tripod Mount B, though I don't remember if it is a black or white one, listed as a replacement part for the 70-200/2.8, 300/4 IS and possibly some others. So they do have it, but you are probably right as to why it didn't come up as an accessory. I saw it listed there last month or so.
