I have discovered a much cheaper alternative to RRS and while I don't claim
it is as good, it works extremely well for far less money.

Bogen/Manfrotto now have a range of quite good semi pro heads (like the
468C) and a number of them share a similar mounting plate.

I have 3 plates (I think they were only about A$20 ea), one each attached
to 2 x EOS 30s and another to the collar of a 100-400 IS. These plates now
come with rubber gaskets and are quite stable. Not as stable as I imagine
the RRS to be, but nonetheless a pleasure to use for probably about 1/10
the cost.

Most of us are trying to come up with better solutions for less money and
this one works a treat.
